  • Will all businesses be required to issue e-Invoice?

    Yes, all businesses will be required to issue e-Invoice in accordance with the phased mandatory implementation timeline, which is based on the business’ annual turnover or revenue threshold.
  • Is there any adjustment window allowed to the supplier to cancel an invoice submitted to IRBM?

    Yes, there is a 72-hour timeframe for the e-Invoice to be cancelled by the supplier. Refer to sections 2.3.6 or 2.4.5 of the IRBM e-Invoice Guideline for further details.
  • Is there any specific application required to scan the QR code?

    The QR code will only contain a link to the validated e-Invoice. Hence, any device (e.g., mobile camera, QR code scanner application) capable of scanning a QR code will be able to scan the QR code.
  • What are the different models for E-Invoicing Malaysia?

    Malaysia offers two main models for e-Invoicing:

    1.
    MyInvois Portal: Hosted by the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (IRBM), this portal allows businesses to create, send, and manage invoices electronically through a user-friendly web interface. It is an accessible option for businesses of all sizes, providing a straightforward way to comply with e-Invoicing requirements.

    2.
    Application Programming Interface (API): This model enables integration directly into IRBM’s systems. Businesses can connect their existing financial and accounting software with IRBM’s e-Invoicing system via APIs, allowing for seamless and automated invoicing processes. This option is ideal for businesses seeking a more customized and automated solution.
  • What is the e-Invoicing Implementation Timeline in Malaysia?

    The e-Invoicing in Malaysia is structured in phases, as announced in the Malaysia Budget 2023. The Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (IRBM) has outlined the following timeline:

    Phase 1 (August 1, 2024): This phase targets businesses with an annual turnover exceeding RM100 million. These businesses are required to start using the e-Invoicing system from this date.

    Phase 2 (January 1, 2025): Businesses with an annual turnover between RM50 million and RM100 million will need to implement e-Invoicing starting from January 1, 2025.

    Phase 3 (January 1, 2026): The system will be expanded to include businesses with an annual turnover between RM25 million and RM50 million from January 1, 2026.

    Phase 4 (January 1, 2027): The final phase will encompass all remaining businesses, including those with an annual turnover below RM25 million. These businesses must comply with the e-Invoicing requirements by January 1, 2027.
